Walking on Earth, A Walking Meditation in Rock Creek Park, Washington, D.C.
Sun, November 5
Sun, November 5, 10:00 am– 12:00 pm
In our mindfulness tradition, walking meditation and connection with the Earth are two important spiritual practices. In 2015 Thich Nhat Hanh wrote in a Lion's Roar article:
Many of us walk for the sole purpose of getting from one place to another. Now suppose we are walking to a sacred place. We would walk quietly and take each gentle step with reverence. I propose that we walk this way every time we walk on the Earth. The Earth is sacred and we touch her with each step. We should be very respectful, because we are walking on our mother. If we walk like that, then every step will be grounding, every step will be nourishing. We can train ourselves to walk with reverence. Wherever we walk, whether it's the railway station or the supermarket, we are walking on the Earth and so we are in a holy sanctuary. If we remember to walk like that, we can be nourished and find solidity with each step. (https://www.lionsroar.com/how-to-meditate-thich-nhat-hanh-on-walking-meditation/)
Join us for a Walking on Earth mindful movement practice. We will practice silent walking meditation in the beauty of Rock Creek Park. Our walking meditation practice will open and close with a few minutes of meditation and a sharing of how we hope to benefit from walking meditation in our daily lives.
We will meet next to Picnic Area #6 on Beach Drive, just north of Military Road. If interested, participants are welcome to share lunch after the hike should they wish to bring a bagged lunch. Our chosen hiking path is paved in order to be inclusive of persons with ADA needs. If you have special considerations, please contact the event registrar to make your needs known.
There is no required fee for this event. However, a donation to Still Water would be received with gratitude. Dana is a gift given from the heart. It brings joy and benefit to both the giver and the receiver.
Please contact the Walking on Earth Registrar: firstname.lastname@example.org or (202) 573-1495.
