Dear Still Water Friends,

This Thursday, December 23, Julia Jarvis and Patti Murphywill orchestrate a special Winter Solstice celebration for the StillWater community. They write:

The Winter Solstice has been celebrated for millennia as the birth of light; of life itself. Every year in the Northern Hemisphere, from Midsummer (June 21st) onward, the daylight hours become shorter and shorter until around December 21st the sun appears to rise and set in the same place for several days. Then, barely noticeable at first, the sun begins its long journey towards the south; each day brings more sunlight and all of creation can exhale. It’s another turning of the wheel of life.

Please join us this Thursday, December 23, as we celebrate the cycle of life and Winter Solstice. We will have a seated meditation beginning at 7:00 pm, followed by walking meditation. Then, beginning at about 7:35, there will be a guided meditation on Solstice and the journey from the dark womb of night to the light of day. This will be followed by music making, sharing and merriment. Bring an instrument, a poem, or a song to share, if you wish. Light refreshments will be served. Children are invited; however, be mindful that they will be asked to remain silent during the meditation periods.

Two other reminders:

  • On January 1, Sandy Schmidt and Rita Kranidis will host a Still Water New Year’s Day Brunch, 11a.m.-2pm. Information about the event was sent in an earlier email. If you are able to attend, please RSVP to Sandy at 301 439 4256 or schmidtsandra@yahoo.com

  • Our new improved Still Water cups are just in. They hold 16 ounces (the old ones held 10 ounces) and they have "breathe" on both sides, so both you and your guests can be reminded. They will be available on Thursday evenings. We are asking for a contribution of $15 or more for each cup.

You are invited to joy in celebration on December 23,January 1, and each time you sip.

Warm wishes,

Mitchell Ratner
