Evening Practice at Crossings

Additionally, there is now an "open-to-all" Friday evening program with the same topic and format as the Thursday evening program. Still Water open will open our practice to our out-of-area friends, wherever they live. We invite you to join us in a Zoom meeting every Friday evening, 7:00 to 8:45 pm, Eastern US time. The Still Water Silver Spring Mindfulness Practice Evening takes place each Thursday at Crossings Healing and Wellness. We begin at 7:00 pm with 50 minutes of sitting and walking meditation, a welcome and introductions, and a short program, which may be a talk, a guided meditation, or a presentation. The program is followed by a group discussion about bringing mindfulness into our lives, families, work, and society. (Click here to see the a preview of this week's topic as well as an archive of dharma topics we've discussed in the past.) After a wrap-up and announcements, the evening ends at 9:00 pm.
The best times to join us are
- Just before the first sitting at 7 pm;
- Quietly, at any time between 7 pm and 7:40;
- At 7:40, at the beginning of walking meditation.
A monthly orientation and basic practices discussion is held the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm. The orientation provides background on the Still Water Mindfulness Practice Center and instruction in the basic mindfulness practices of conscious breathing, sitting meditation, and mindfulness in daily life.
Crossings is located in the Metropolitan Building (8720 Georgia Avenue), one building north from the corner of Georgia Avenue and Cameron Street. Information about transportation to the building, and nearby parking, is available here. The main entrance door faces Georgia Avenue. If the front entrance doors are locked, push the button on the silver intercom box just to the right of the righthand door. An operator will answer. Tell the operator that you are attending a Still Water event at Crossings. He or she will unlock the door next to the phone.
Please note:Do not park evenings or weekends in the private lot directly behind 8720 Georgia Avenue (accessed from Fenwick Lane). It is patrolled by a towing company and you are likely to be towed.
Once inside the Metropolitan Building, take the elevator to the third floor. Turn towards Georgia Avenue and take a few steps. Then, with the main Crossings door in front of you, turn right and follow the small hall way to the entry door for the Crossings’s meditation space / classroom.
Leave your shoes on the shelves, hang up your coat, bring valuables with you, and come in.
You have arrived, you are home.

Thursday evening weather cancellation policy: The Thursday evening gathering is cancelled when Montgomery County Schools have closed for the day or afternoon, or when school-sponsored evening events are cancelled.
