Sun, July 15, 2:00 pm – Sun, July 15, 4:00 pm

Please join the Still Water community on Sunday afternoon, July 15th, 2:00 - 4:00 pm, for a tea ceremony celebrating Scott Schang, Our Local Sanghas, and the Plum Village tradition.

Scott received Lamp Transmission and became a Dharma teacher at Plum Village during the June retreat. During the Transmission ceremony, Scott offered an insight poem to the patriarchs and matriarchs of our lineage. This poem was formally accepted, and a four-line ppem, identifying spiritual qualities to be cultivated, was offered in return. (See poems below.)

After the exchange of poetry, a lamp was given in the name of the lineage and of Thich Nhat Hanh, passing the flame from one generation of teachers to the next. It is a special moment for the Still Water and regional Plum Village communities as well as Scott.

drink-your-teaWe will gather at Crossings in Silver Spring at 2 pm. After a short sitting, we will enjoy some tea and treats, ask Scott to tell us about the ceremony and its significance for him, and share reflections and good wishes. You are invited to join us.

Please register ahead of time so we know how roughly how many people to prepare for.

Scott’s gatha was:

Offering ourselves and our hearts

Fully broken into wholeness

Stardust radiates

Illuminating innumerable paths

The gatha Scott received from the Plum Village community was:

The sun of insight shines in every realm

Indestructible is the seed of bodhicitta

The sound of the rising tide heals all wounds

Every step restores the life of mother earth.
