Evening Practice at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension

Sat, January 4, 12:00 am – Sat, January 4, 11:59 pm

In the Still Water MPC we often recite together the Five Mindfulness Trainings at our weekly gatherings. The trainings remind us of our deep aspiration to live every day with a calm mind and an open heart. They provide invaluable guidelines for mindful living.

The trainings enter us most deeply when we receive them formally, in a Five Mindfulness Trainings transmission ceremony. This transmission publicly joins us with the tradition of mindfulness practice passed from teacher to student in an unbroken line from the Buddha, through many Indian, Chinese and Vietnamese teachers, through Thich Nhat Hanh, to us.

On Saturday, January 4, 2020, the Washington DC area mindfulness communities (including the Still Water MPC, MPC of Fairfax, Washington Mindfulness Community, the Opening Heart Mindfulness Community, and the Boat of Compassion Sangha) will join together to transmit to their practitioners the Three Refuges and the Five Mindfulness Trainings. If you are associated with the Still Water MPC and would like to receive the Refuges and the Mindfulness Trainings in January, or would like to discuss the possibility of receiving the trainings, please email us at info@StillWaterMPC.org.

Even if you will not be receiving trainings, we encourage you to attend the ceremony. It is a joyous and heartening event and your presence will support those who are receiving trainings.

The ceremony will be held at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Fairfax (2709 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton, VA 22124), from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and will include an informal tea.

The text of the Five Mindfulness Trainings is available here.
